bullet

To promote shooting sports as a family recreation.

We are affiliated with the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS).   SASS is an international organization created to preserve and promote the sport of Cowboy Action Shooting, which is the fastest growing outdoor shooting sport in the country.  Today SASS has over 70,000 members including men, women and children of all ages.

All club members must be SASS members and are encouraged to be NRA Members.  Non-members are welcome to shoot with us at any regular shoot.

We Dress The Part

Costuming is an important part of Cowboy Action Shooting.  We dress the part.  Participants dress in period clothing typical of the 1800's or B Western movies.   You'll see everyone from the trail rider to the town preacher to the B western movie star.  Don't be surprised to see a saloon girl or two, along with lots of other cowgirls.

Firearms

We shoot firearms typical of the period after the Civil War and before 1899 including single action revolvers, lever action rifles, and either double barrel, lever action, or 1897 pump shotguns.   Contestants use either smokeless powder or black powder.

A typical monthly match includes four to six stages.  A stage is a storyline for a short shooting activity such as a bank robbery, a jailbreak, a town shootout, a hanging, or a disturbance in Pearl's Parlor House.  Most stages include shooting two pistols, a rifle and a shotgun.

Our Town

Currently our cowboy town consists of  Major Dundee's Mercantile, Desoto Jim's Barbershop, People's State Bank, Two Ponies Saloon, Pearl's Parlor House, the Sheriff's Office, the gallows, the cemetery, the moving target stage, and the corral.  We have an actual log cabin also built by club members.  See photos of our town.

Breakfast and lunch are available under the big pavilion where we hang out.

Both hookup and primitive camping are available; hookups include water and electricity.  Contact Uncle Frank (256) 728-2280 gfranks@nehp.netClick here for camping information.
